NCMA Professionally Accredited Programs at Red Deer Polytechnic
Through our Southern Alberta Chapter, CIM | Chartered Managers Canada has partnered with Red Deer Polytechnic, formerly known as Red Deer College, to ensure that they offer programs that align with our Chartered Management Program. By completing these programs at Red Deer Polytechnic, you will become eligible for our Certified in Management (C.I.M.) professional designation. Red Deer Polytechnic offers multiple accredited programs, giving you flexibility in choosing a program that will help you develop your management skills while still being eligible for a designation.
Red Deer Polytechnic was founded in 1964 as Red Deer College. In July 2021, the institution was recognized by the government of Alberta as a degree-granting institution. This is also when the name of the college was changed to what we know it as today. Since its founding, Red Deer Polytechnic has grown to teach students across two campuses in Red Deer and has graduated thousands of students who have become experts and innovators in their respective fields within Canada and around the world. Business Administration Diploma
This two-year diploma program offers a flexible education that can be completed through full-time, or part-time studies at the main campus. Students in this program will spend their first year completing standard business administration courses which cover topics such as:
- Accounting
- Marketing
- Business Management
- Business Technology
- Organizational Behaviour
- Economics
- Business Writing
In year two of the program, students will be able to choose a specialization that will give them a focused education within a single area of business.
Accounting Specialization
Students in the accounting specialization will take the basic knowledge gained in the year one accounting courses and build on it further with intermediate financial accounting courses. Other topics covered in the accounting specialization include: statistics, corporate finance, managerial accounting, business integration and Canadian business law. Students in this specialization program will also be allowed to choose one course from a list of business courses, as well as one open elective course from any program to supplement their accounting education.
Financial Services Specialization
Students who are looking to build a career in finance will greatly benefit from the courses offered in this program specialization. Students will learn topics such as managerial accounting, corporate finance, tax planning, mutual funds, advanced financial planning and Canadian business law. This program specialization covers a broader range of topics, and it does not include any options for elective courses.
Marketing Specialization
Students who are looking to start or advance a career in marketing will be able to learn the skills they need to create compelling marketing campaigns that drive growth for their employers. Topics within this program specialization include statistics, marketing communications, marketing research, business integration and Canadian business law. The marketing specialization allows for one business elective course along with an open elective course from any program offered at Red Deer Polytechnic.
General Management Diploma
If students would prefer not to choose a specialized diploma program and choose more topics that fit their educational goals, then the general management diploma is the program path for them. Second year topics within the general management diploma program include managerial accounting, statistics, corporate finance, human resource management, and business law. Students will also be able to choose three elective business courses and one open elective option from any program at Red Deer Polytechnic.
