He began his association with the organization in 2012 when he joined the Northern Alberta/N.W.T. local chapter as Director at Large, before transitioning to Membership Services. In his role, Bob collaborates closely with the CEO to ensure effective governance, sound management, and the achievement of organizational goals and objectives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization faced numerous challenges, including the necessity to transition to remote operations for staff and chapters across Canada. In-person events, including the Annual General Meeting, were canceled for the first time in the organization's history. However, the successful execution of the first online AGM paved the way for three consecutive years of productive virtual meetings.
Another challenge Bob addressed was increasing members' interest in serving on the National Board. Upon his appointment as President, the board was struggling, but with Bob's guidance, it now enjoys a full complement of members, with a growing number of applicants vying for positions on the National Board of Directors each year.
Bob has been with the same employer for an impressive 35 years, starting as a clerical worker before quickly advancing to a supervisory role. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, he relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, in 1995 when his employer moved their offices. Over the years, he has held various management positions, led a crew scheduling project to improve work-life balance and safety, and received two nominations for a President's Award for Excellence, earning him a reputation as a respected senior leader within his group.
In his personal life, Bob is passionate about sports and volunteering, having spent many years coaching his three adult children in baseball and serving on the boards of both SAMBA and a local soccer organization. He takes great pride in his family, including his two granddaughters, whom he playfully regards as his next coaching challenge. Bob's commitment to helping others drives his continued leadership at CIM | Chartered Managers Canada.
