Leadership in Action

CIM | Chartered Managers Canada recently held the pilot session of its Leadership Academy’s Governance Training, led by the association’s President, Steve Lupky, C.Mgr. This inaugural session marks the beginning of an exciting new initiative to refine and expand CIM’s internal expertise into structured training programs designed for organizations and leaders across Canada.

The pilot session served as a collaborative forum for participating Chartered Managers to share their experiences, insights, and perspectives on effective governance practices within today’s dynamic management environment. Their feedback will play an essential role in shaping the future development of the Leadership Academy’s suite of programs, ensuring each session reflects the realities, challenges, and opportunities faced by modern managers.

From Internal Expertise to National Impact

The Leadership Academy represents a strategic next step in CIM’s evolution as a professional body. By leveraging the extensive expertise of our Chartered Managers, the Academy will offer practical, results-oriented training that supports organizations seeking to strengthen their leadership and governance capacity.

Employers across sectors increasingly recognize that leadership development is not a one-time investment but a continuous process of growth, reflection, and adaptation. Through the Leadership Academy, CIM will provide organizations with access to seasoned professionals who combine management theory with real-world experience, offering training that is credible, actionable, and directly aligned with workplace needs.

Supporting Employer Goals Through Professional Development

For employers, partnering with CIM’s Leadership Academy will provide a direct avenue to enhance their teams’ capabilities while building organizational resilience and accountability. Whether through governance training, management development workshops, or future customized programs, these offerings will help organizations foster a culture of informed leadership and strategic decision-making.

Each program will be informed by the same high standards that underpin CIM’s highest professional designation, the Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.®), and guided by our mission to elevate the practice of management across Canada. The result will be professional development experiences that bridge academic understanding with practical expertise, creating tangible outcomes for both individuals and their organizations.

Looking Ahead

As the Leadership Academy continues to evolve, CIM will broaden its offerings to include a diverse range of professional development programs designed to meet the needs of today’s dynamic organizations. These programs will draw upon the knowledge and experience of Chartered Managers and other recognized professionals, engaging both internal and external facilitators, mentors, and subject-matter experts across a range of management and leadership disciplines.

Through this collaborative approach, the Leadership Academy will cultivate a national network of learning and professional growth - one that benefits both our members and the wider business community by advancing management capability and leadership excellence across Canada.
