This course will develop the student's understanding of the principles of Operations Management with emphasis on the practical application of business theory and concepts by examining activities that relate to the creation of goods and services through the transformation of inputs into outputs. Topics of study in this course include: what is production and operations management, productivity, competitiveness and strategy, quality management, product and service design, process selection, capacity planning, design of work systems, learning curves, inventory management JIT, maintenance and reliability, project management, and supply chain management.
On completion of this course, the student will be able to develop an understanding of the operation of the manufacturing and/or service delivery side of a business enterprise and the interrelationships which must exist in a competitive and dynamic firm.
