Chapter Overview
The Ontario East Chapter (originally founded as the Ottawa Valley Chapter) was established in 1965. Although physically located in Ottawa, it also serves Kingston, Cornwall and surrounding Eastern Ontario areas. Our chapter has a long history of serving Eastern Ontario’s communities with management development and recognition. The chapter offers many networking opportunities for members to come together to learn from each other and develop their management skills.
Ontario East Chapter Education Partnerships
CIM | Chartered Managers Canada values education that empowers students to develop their skills and grow into confident and competent managers and business leaders. The Ontario East Chapter in Ottawa has specifically partnered with Algonquin College in Ottawa to ensure that they offer programs that meet the requirements of the Chartered Manager Program (CMP) so students can become eligible for our management designations upon completing their program. If you are looking at post-secondary programs in Eastern Ontario to advance your career in management, consider these programs to help you obtain our C.I.M. and C.Mgr. designations. We are continuing our work to add more accredited programs to choose from.
Past Events at CIM | Chartered Managers Canada's Ontario East Chapter
The Ontario East Chapter of CIM | Chartered Managers Canada hosts various events year-round to bring chapter members together to network, develop their professional management skills, and discuss new developments in management and leadership. Our chapter also partners with other leadership and management organizations to provide valuable skills development and networking opportunities. Some of the events that the chapter has recently been involved with include:
Annual General Meeting
In July 2021, members of the Ontario East Chapter came together for their local Annual General Meeting which was held online. Normally, Chapter members meet in person to discuss their vision for the chapter, new developments in management and leadership, and the chapter committee begins to plan events and opportunities for the coming year. Events are currently held virtually until in-person meetings and events can resume.
Holiday Social
In December 2019, the Ontario East Chapter held their annual holiday social. Every year, the Chapter hosts an informal holiday dinner to bring members together to celebrate the year, enjoy the holiday spirit, discuss association business and win plenty of door prizes. The 2020 event was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions in Ontario.
Achieve Public Workshop
As part of our partnership with the Achieve Centre for Leadership, members of the Ontario East Chapter attended this workshop in October 2019. The topic of this workshop was Dealing with Difficult People. As any manager knows all too well, there are times where they have to deal with difficult people, whether they are peers, subordinates, superiors or external stakeholders. This enlightening workshop was extremely beneficial to our membership.
